The Museum of Macedonia and Gallery MC present an exhibition of fresco replicas (scenes in their original size and color, painted with tempera on canvas) the most authentic replicas of Macedonian medieval painting from the 11th- 14th centuries. These are the iconographic scenes of painterly, historic, and cultural values, which have placed the monumental painting of Macedonia in the anthology of Byzantine art. More precisely, the Old and New Testament compositions, liturgical scenes, images of ecclesiastical leaders and educators, local saints, hagiographies, poetic illustrations, themes with didactic messages, church calendar, donor compositions, etc. Through this exhibition visitors can have a preview of the rich painting tradition, and the spiritual and aesthetics sensibility of the Byzantine-Slav cultural realm from the 11th – 14th centuries.

Parallel with the exhibition the art historian, professor Aneta Serafimova, will give lectures on the ” Masterpieces of Macedonian fresco painting from the 11th-14th centuries”-an analysis of 10 scenes from 10 medieval monuments, that have a unique and promoting iconography. Professor Serafimova’s CD “Painterly Heights” will illustrate the lectures.
