Aleksandar Spasoski
Aleksandar Spasoski is a representative of the contemporary new media art scene. He has been expressing himself for more than 10 years through video, film, music, with combinations of video and sculpture, painting and installations. His wide range of performances and exhibitions often skillfully and essentially present just one creation, showing a sensational mix of media. After graduating painting at the Art Academy of fine arts in R. Macedonia in 2000 he began to study of media art at the ADBK Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, Germany where he was resident for 8 years. In his time there Spasoski worked on many audio visual projects. In the magazine ‘’All about Jazz’’ 2006 he received an excellent review for his unique music album under the name “Bottling Jazzy” that manifests his polymorphic talent. ( …it’s weirdly organic and imaginative music where you never quite know what’s going to come next…) article by Nenad Georgievski. In 2008 for the final exhibition at the ADBK Academy of Fine Arts in Munich he received first prize for video from Daad Foundation for ‘’Voyeur.’’ In his work the intention for developing dynamic moving pictures with strong audio support is especially noticeable. The magic appears with usage of excellent mix of tone and picture connected in space, and in the case of ‘’Voyeur’’ it is shown in strong relation to the space itself. ‘’Voyeur’’ was shown at several well-known festivals in Europe, including Oberhausen Short Film Festival, Kasel film Festival, Eastern Neighbors Utrecht, Split Film Festival and others. This video piece of Spasoski entered into the important anthology monographic selection “Video from central and eastern Europe from 1989 – 2009” from TRANSITLAND PROJECT which forms an excellent retrospective of 100 selected videos marking the period of the fall of the Berlin Wall, presenting artists from Eastern and Central European regions. The project was shown in the Centrum Hungarikum in Berlin, the Ludwig Museum in Budapest, Inter Space Sofia, European Film Festival in Los Angeles, Moscow Museum of Modern Art (MMOMA) Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid. As a director he has also created documentary movies, commercials and TV clips that show him to be a unique contemporary artist using new media in innovative ways. Through cooperation with the agency McCann Ericskon in Skopje, Spasoski created a video for the realization of the campaign ‘’Check them out’’ which won the Golden Lion Award. At the Gallery MC location in New York, Spasoski will present his video installation Voyeur and the viewer will have the opportunity to see a selection of several videos that Spasoski has created since 2000. This exhibition is supported by the Ministry of Culture of Republic of Macedonia. Curator Ana Frangovska
