Tuesday, September 6th at 7pm: The selected programme is a diverse palette of several music styles and periods. Starting from the baroque fundaments with Telemann and Quantz, building up to Shostakovich, and leading up to the intricate rhythms in the Macedonian composers’ Jankovski and Videnovic works.
Marija Jakimovska, born in 1988 in Skopje, began her musical education at DMBUC Ilija Nikolovski – Luj, in the class of prof. Radmila Poposka.
She continued her secondary education at DMBUC “Ilija Nikolovski – Luj”, where she obtained a diploma for secondary music education and a Diploma for demonstrated exceptional results, expanded and deepened knowledge in the fields of science, art and other types of activities, for talented students in June, 2007.
Since October 2007, he has been enrolled as a full-time student at the Faculty of Musical Arts in Skopje – flute department, in the class of Prof. Strasho Temkov. In 2011, she graduated and acquired the title of graduate flutist.
In June 2013, she obtained her master’s degree at FMA – Skopje in the same class. Jakimovska has attended several professional seminars and masterclasses with eminent professors such as: Prof. Laura Levaj and Prof. Moshe Aron Epstein, seminars on chamber music, under the direction of Prof. Strasho Temkov, and others.
She has performed as a soloist with the chamber orchestra at DMBUC “Ilija Nikolovski – Luj”, the Macedonian Philharmonic, and a large number of performances at cultural-artistic events, humanitarian concerts and several independent recitals.
Since 2012, she has been a member of the Skopje Wind Quintet, the chamber orchestra “Skopje Soloists”, the chamber ensemble “The Quartet”, a 10-year member of the flute quartet “Aulos” and the symphony orchestra for film music recording – F.A.M.E’.S. .
Jakimovska is a regular participant in educational projects. One of the most significant projects, that was part of the pan-European action, was “Balckboard music project” – supported by the EU and the Ministry of Culture – Euro Integrations which was presented in two countries (Denmark and Belgium) in 2016, was evaluated with high marks and pleasantly surprisingly accepted by age groups 7-12 years in these countries.
Jakimovska has won several personal awards and recognitions from state and international competitions, seminars.
Currently employed in the orchestra of the National Opera and Ballet.
Vladimir Lazarevski was born in 1979. He started playing the oboe when he was 15 years old. He earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at the National Music Academy Pancho Vladigerov in Sofia, Bulgaria, in the class of Prof. Georgi Zhelyazov. One year later, he started his two-year specialisation in Boston, USA, as a scholarship holder from the Longy School of Music, under the mentorship of the Boston Symphony Orchestra oboists, Wayne Rapier and Mark McEwen. After his return from the USA, he continued his education at the National Music Academy Pancho Vladigerov and earned his PhD in the field of oboe and chamber music performance in 2013.
Vladimir is a laureate of the music competition Allegro Vivo in Austria (2002) and the competition The Earth and the People in Bulgaria (2001). He is also the recipient of awards at national oboe and chamber music competitions.
He is the first oboe of the Macedonian Philharmonic and is also an Associate Professor at the Music Academy at the University of Goce Delchev in Shtip, since the formation of the university in 2007. Vladimir is a member of Music Progressive Quartet, the contemporary music ensemble Contempora and the film music orchestra F.A.M.E.’s.
Vladimir plays a Laubin oboe, made of rose wood by the legendary American oboe maker, Paul Laubin.
Kalina Mrmevska, hailed by critics as “a pianist of enviable power,” “an artist of clear and vivid vision,” Ms.Mrmevska made her debut at the age of 9, winning first prizes in national competitions. At 12,she made her orchestral debut with the Macedonian Philharmonic. At 18, she represented N.Macedonia at the EBU Eurovision Contest for young musicians. She took 1st prize at the International Piano Competition for Young Talents “Rovere d’Oro” and 2 nd prize at the “Schumann-Young Chang”.
Mrmevska has performed as a recitalist and orchestra soloist across Europe and the U.S. in venues such as Musikhalle Hamburg, Warsaw Philharmonic Hall, Danube Palace, Budapest, Chicago Cultural Center.
As a humanitarian, Mrmevska was active in an NGO which rescued children during the Balkan wars. She was awarded the “13th November Prize of the City of Skopje ” for outstanding achievement. In 2006 Mrmevska appeared in Shadows, directed by M. Manchevski. Committed to promoting Macedonian music, Mrmevska has given world premieres of Macedonian composers. Her next CD will feature further examples of this genre. In her native Macedonia, she often appears on national media and in Chicago she was broadcast live by WFMT at the prestigious Dame Myra Hess concert series.
She is a DAAD scholar, as well as the recipient of O. Stöterau and the Oscar and Vera Stiftung. She received the J. Bradley Award from the U of Denver, as well as the prestigious Staller Scholar Award from SUNY at Stony Brook, where she completed her DMA in piano performance under the renowned pianist Gilbert Kalish.
Ms. Mrmevska is also an active teaching artist and educator. At SUNY in New York, she coached advanced students and taught undergraduate courses. Her students have won soloistcompetitions and performed at Lincoln Center. She is a jury member at competitions such as LICSoloist, Danube International Concerto, Sound Symphony Solo and Yamaha Piano/Breckenridge Concerto. In 2018 she joined the distinguished piano faculty at Scriabin Summer Piano Academy, where she continues to teach individual lessons and lecture on music history.
In the season of 2021/22 Ms. Mrmevska will be an Artist in Residence at universities and colleges in the USA, including Tennessee Tech, Houston Community College. She will be a guest artist with Chandler Symphony Orchestra, Sound Symphony Orchestra and the German Consulate in New York, as well as festivals throughout the U.S. and Europe.
