MEMORY IS THE WEAPON
PANDORA APOSTOLOSKA SAZDOVSKA
The “MEMORY IS THE WEAPON” project by the visual artist Pandora Apostoloska Sazdovska is multidisciplinary and is a combination of photography, light installations and objects. The monumental works aim to present the current and engaged visual research of the artist. Her project explores immigrant rights and historical events and defines the kind of art that is created to exist at a certain political moment, thus a potential political and social impact is made on the work of art itself. She has developed a unique body of art that deals with reality and the present rather than with traditional modes of representation. This approach allows the viewers to experience a living memory of social activism where the artist blurs the borders between art and life. The whole project contains a deep post-conceptual approach, in order to “clarify” that art sometimes does not have to have a meaning per se, but to act as a pillar of an ongoing experiment and dialogue in a larger artistic paradigm. As a conceptual artist, Pandora Apostoloska Sazdovska reduces the material presence of the work to an absolute minimum, creating some sort of “dematerialization” of art. Memories and personal stories become an important segment in her work. Inspired by the daily routine, she uses the text and numbers to express a kind of fragmentation of the reality as a critic of the society we live in.
